Baptisms, Weddings & Funerals

Baptisms

Baptism is about becoming a part of the family of God. The Uniting Church baptises those who confess the Christian faith, and children who are presented for baptism.

In the Uniting Church baptism always takes place in a worship service as it is considered a celebration of the whole church.

Baptism of infants is conducted at the baptism font by the pouring of water. In the worship service parents make promises to God and to the child to provide opportunities to grow in faith and to take seriously the call to follow Christ. Often later in life, the child reaffirms these promises for themselves and commits to following Christ.

Another option to celebrate a birth is to have a prayer of thanksgiving for the arrival of your child in a worship service, celebrating the gift of life. Either the baptism or thanksgiving prayer can take place in any of our in-person services.

Baptism of children, youth and adults is conducted either at the baptism font by the pouring of water or by full immersion in the baptism pool or elsewhere (eg beach) as approved by the Church Council. Baptism preparation is provided by one of the ministers at Adelaide West.

Everyone is welcome to be baptised at Adelaide West and there is no charge for being baptised at the church.

Please contact us if you are interested in baptism.

Weddings

Adelaide West Uniting Church is a great venue for weddings, marriage blessings and receptions. The auditorium is flexible for decorating and seating. Likewise, the hall can be decorated to taste. We would be pleased to assist you in making the day special and memorable.

Should you wish to have your own Minister conduct the service, it is requested that he/she contact the Adelaide West Minister.

Funerals

We affirm the Christian conviction that while death is the end of mortal life, it marks a new beginning in our relationship with God. We are here to share the sorrow of those who mourn, and to offer them our love and support.

If you would like to know more about holding a funeral at Adelaide West, please contact us.

Serving Opportunities

It takes a large team of volunteers to be a church that is seeking to be a place of acceptance, hope and transformation in Jesus. We encourage our regular attenders to prayerfully consider where their time, gifts and skills can be used in the church. Serving is the best way to connect with each other and to belong.

Community Share Table

The Community Share Table is available on a ‘Give what you can, take what you need’ basis. It sits outside the main doors during services and when the office is open, Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, 10am to 3pm. This is a ‘share table’, people from the community around the church are invited to leave goods on the trolley and take up to 4 items. This is a great way to re-purpose unwanted items to others who can use them and also help out those who are struggling to make ends meet. Together, we are community!
